Hannah - Social media expert & coach: Sound Social
When Hannah and I met over lunch we talked a lot about the world of social media and both of our approaches to what we do. We share a lot of traits to our personality and work in a very similar way. We are both ultimately passionate about the community of female entrepreneurs and creatives and as well as working with her photographically we have come up with a great platform that supports females in business, watch this space!!
What do you do with your business?
I am a social media manager and coach, specialising in Instagram, and working with wellness businesses.
Whats your WHY?
I suffered from depression for many years, and lack of self worth. I wanted to build something for me, and prove to myself that I could be a success. I feel that I have proved this in just 6 short months, and now I can look deeper into myself and work out what my deeper driving forces are. My depression recovery was aided by a community of people that were there for me, and helped in my healing process. I want everyone to have that sort of support in their lives, when needed, and now I am very much driven by the need for community building. I feel that my social media knowledge has given me a great starting point for this mission.
What is your background, how did you get into what you do?
I've actually working in sales, housing and construction for most of my adult life! After having my youngest daughter, I developed very severe post natal depression. I was functioning, but seriously struggling with self worth and direction. One day I decided to try crossFit, to help me get back into exercise and to help with my mental health. I fell in love with it and noticed a significant change in my wellbeing. I decided that I wanted to create a life for myself where I had the freedom to workout as much I wanted, and have no constraints.I saw an advert for retraining as a SMM and realised that it encompassed all of my skills, I fell in love with it very quickly, and decided to make a go of things!
How do you keep motivated running your business solely? Do you find support with any other area in your business?
My husband is a massive support for me; he is also an entrepreneur so he just 'gets it'. I also just love working on my own schedule, and I really don't think I would have it any other way now!
What platform gets you best recognised for your work? Where do you get your clients?
I only operate on Instagram- when I first started out I thought that I needed to be everywhere, but actually IG is my most loved platform, and that is where I want to stay. The riches are in the niches!
How do you look after your wellbeing when in business?
I workout every day. Totally non-negotiable. Whether it's an intense CrossFit workout, or a quick HIIT at home, or some in depth core work and mobility, I always move my body.
What do you enjoy most about being self-employed?
It has to be the amazing connections that I have made. I have met so many wonderful people in the last 6 months and that has to be the best thing ever. I love to network and build human relationships away from social media. I think social media is a wonderful tool to connect to a wider network, but what's even better is then being able to meet these people in the flesh.
How do you handle motherhood and business?
Badly! It's hard, I won't lie. I'm in business mode up until 3pm when I immediately return to mum mode, and then back to business as soon as they go to sleep. Between 3-8pm I'm all for them though, otherwise it's not fair. My business is 100% for me, I'm not doing it for the kids. I wanted to prove something to myself, that I could be a success, despite some of the curve balls that have been thrown at me.
Are you open to collaborations?
Abso-bloody-lutely! Community building is my passion!
What are your dreams for moving forward with your business?
I'd like to start running more local workshops, more local collaborations, and focus more on 1-1 training. I also have a BIG business plan in the works, but I'm not quite ready to share that...
Do you have any advice for any other businesses / entrepreneurs?
Don't have a Plan B. The moment you have a Plan B you are telling yourself that you don't believe in yourself.
